We Are Hiring: Hospital Administrator /General Manager
Location: Republic of Nauru (Full time, on site deployment)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and results driven Hospital Administrator to lead the operational and administrative management of Nauru Medical Centre, a 65 bed hospital, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of hospital services across the facility.
This is a non-clinical leadership role focused on operational management, resource stewardship, compliance, and enabling effective healthcare delivery in a unique and challenging environment.
The Hospital Administrator works in close partnership with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), with Cleary separated responsibilities. Clinical governance and medical decision-making sit with CMO. Operational and administrative accountability sits with the Hospital Administrator.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Hospital Operations
- Provide overall leadership and coordination of hospital administrative and operational functions
- Ensure the hospital operates safely, efficiently, and in line with organisational and regulatory requirements
- Act as the bridge between hospital operations, senior management, government and relevant stakeholders
Operations, Facilities, and Logistics
- Oversee daily management of non-clinical departments and support services
- Manage facilities, accommodation, transport, utilities, and contracted services
- Ensure operational readiness and continuity of services
Finance, Resources, and Supply Chain
- Manage hospital budgets, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting
- Oversee procurement, inventory, and supply chain management
- Ensure availability and maintenance of equipment, consumables, and services
Human Resources and Workforce Administration
- Oversee HR administration for clinical and non-clinical staff
- Manage contracts, rosters, leave tracking, and workforce logistics
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance management processes
Compliance, Risk, and Governance
- Ensure compliance with national regulations, organisational policies, and contractual obligations
- Maintain operational risk registers and mitigation plans
- Lead non-clinical emergency preparedness and business continuity planning
- Support audits, inspections, and reporting requirements
Stakeholder and Government Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for non-clinical matters with government and external stakeholders
- Coordinate administrative reporting and operational liaison with relevant authorities
- Support the CMO by managing operational interfaces with partners
Quality and Performance Improvement
- Monitor operational performance and service delivery indicators
- Identify system gaps and implement practical improvements
- Foster a professional, respectful, and productive work environment
Explicit Scope Boundaries
The Hospital Administrator is not responsible for:
- Clinical care decisions
- Medical supervision or clinical governance
- Credentialing or clinical risk management
These responsibilities are held by the CMO.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Proven senior experience in hospital administration or complex operational environments
- Demonstrated experience in budget management, logistics, and resource coordination
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
Desirable
- Experience working in remote, island, or resource-constrained healthcare settings
- Experience in humanitarian, NGO, defence, or international health contexts
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and government reporting
A medical degree or clinical qualification is not required.
