- Medication Management
- Receive, review, and dispense medications as per valid prescriptions.
- Ensure correct drug, dose, route, frequency, and duration.
- Monitor drug expiry dates and remove expired/near-expiry medicines.
- Patient Safety & Counseling
- Counsel patients and attendants on proper use of medicines, side effects, and precautions.
- Ensure high-alert medications are dispensed with extra caution.
- Report and document adverse drug reactions (ADR).
- Inventory & Store Management
- Maintain adequate stock levels of medicines, surgical items, and consumables.
- Monitor indenting, procurement, storage, and issuance of drugs.
- Ensure proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity, cold chain).
- Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain pharmacy records as per Drug & Cosmetics Act and hospital policy.
- Ensure compliance with NABH / NABL / statutory requirements.
- Maintain narcotic and psychotropic drug registers as per legal norms.
- Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff regarding medication use.
- Clarify prescription-related queries with clinicians when required.
- Participate in pharmacy rounds, audits, and quality improvement activities.
- Quality Assurance
- Follow SOPs for dispensing, storage, and labeling.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
- Support medication error prevention initiatives.
- Emergency & OT Support
- Ensure availability of emergency drugs and crash cart medicines.
- Support OT, ICU, and wards with timely drug supply.
- Training & Development
- Train junior pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.
- Stay updated with new drugs, hospital formulary, and guidelines.
- Ethical & Professional Practice
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Follow ethical dispensing practices and professional conduct.
