Position Overview
The Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) Coordinator provides program coordination and direct service support for a multidisciplinary, hospital-based violence intervention program focused on prevention, early identification, intervention, and recovery services for individuals and families impacted by intimate partner violence (IPV), domestic violence (DV), sexual assault (SA), and human trafficking (HT).
This position is funded through a grant awarded through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as part of a statewide initiative to improve public safety and health outcomes for victims of violence in high-need communities. The grant is administered through the VHHA Foundation, the charitable affiliate of the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
The Coordinator collaborates with grant administrators, community partners, and ancillary departments to ensure compliance with grant requirements, support program implementation, monitor performance outcomes, and collect and analyze data to identify trends, service gaps, and emerging community needs. The Coordinator supports trauma-informed, patient-centered care while strengthening cross-sector collaboration between healthcare, victim advocacy, and public safety systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties represent core functions of the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on program or organizational needs.
Direct Patient and Family Services
Provide trauma-informed hospital-based and community-based services to patients impacted by IPV, DV, SA, and HT, including:
- Risk and needs assessment
- Crisis intervention and safety planning
- Short-term supportive counseling within scope of practice
Provide post-discharge follow-up support, including case management, referral coordination, and linkage to community-based victim services.
Provide victim accompaniment as appropriate within healthcare, legal, law enforcement, and community systems.
Program Coordination and Grant Compliance- Coordinate program activities in collaboration with department leadership and grant partners.
- Support program development, implementation, sustainability planning, and continuous quality improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, deliverables, performance metrics, and reporting timelines.
- Collect, validate, monitor, and submit financial, program, and patient-level data in accordance with grant and regulatory standards.
- Analyze data to identify trends, high-risk populations, service gaps, and opportunities for prevention and early intervention.
- Collaborate with program evaluators and stakeholders to monitor program outcomes and demonstrate program impact on patient and community safety outcomes.
Community Partnership and Systems Coordination- Facilitate collaboration and communication among hospital departments, community service providers, advocacy agencies, and criminal justice partners.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case coordination and violence prevention initiatives.
- Represent the organization in community coalitions, task forces, and stakeholder meetings as assigned.
- Support development of coordinated community response strategies to improve continuity of care and victim safety.
Program Operations- Coordinate and oversee implementation and monitoring of crisis assistance funds for eligible patients and employees impacted by violence.
- Support development and delivery of staff education and training related to violence screening, response, documentation, and referral pathways.
- Assist with development of policies, workflows, and best practices aligned with HVIP and trauma-informed care standards.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Demonstrated knowledge of dynamics of IPV, DV, SA, and human trafficking.
- Knowledge of healthcare systems, victim services systems, and coordinated community response models.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams and community partnerships.
- Ability to conduct patient assessments, provide supportive counseling within scope, and coordinate behavioral health and social service referrals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including grant documentation and reporting.
- Strong organizational, data management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
Required Experience- Experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence in healthcare, advocacy, public health, or community settings.
- Experience with program coordination, quality improvement, or grant-supported programs preferred.
- Experience providing staff education or training strongly preferred.
Education
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, or related field
Preferred: Master’s degree in related field
Additional Requirements- Successful completion of criminal background and child protective services screening.
- Reliable transportation for community-based work as needed.
