The role of Hostess is a key aspect of the guest’s dining experience. Often being the first person a guest interacts with, whether that be over the phone or at the front door, you are the one who sets the expectations for the entire dining experience. It is crucial that all times you are polite, professional, and welcoming. As a hostess you are the embodiment of hospitality. A few specific tasks that are within your job description include:

- Answer phones promptly and genuinely

- Be familiar with OpenTable and all its features

- Take and edit reservations

- Know when and where reservations are able to be accommodated per shift’s needs

- Ensuring a table is properly set for the correct number of guests dining

- Escort guests to table and throughout restaurant as needed

- Be able to identify VIP’s by name and their specific preferences they request when at Mooo…

- Clean and stock restrooms throughout the shift

- Check and retrieve all coats, bags, or items guests do not wish to bring to their table

- Take call in To-Go orders

- Note what course each table is on to plan for upcoming table turns

- Assist in the clearing and resetting of tables as needed

- Offer a sincere farewell to exiting guests

These are the standard duties of all hostess. There are of course, more in depth steps that you will be attending to that ensure the smooth flow of the restaurant. The front door controls the pace of the entire evening for everyone. Knowing how to effectively seat the restaurant will set the rest of the staff up for success.
