Black Bear Diner – Host

As a member of our Server Support Team, you play a key role in ensuring every guest enjoys a warm, welcoming, and positive experience.

Knowledge & Technical Responsibilities

• Warmly and promptly greet all arriving guests.
• Accommodate seating requests whenever possible.
• Seat guests according to preferences while balancing flow across service stations.
• When immediate seating is unavailable, record guest names, party size, and provide accurate wait times.
• Announce parties when tables are ready.
• Present menus and ensure tables are properly set and clean before seating guests.
• Relay messages to servers as needed.
• Maintain a clean entrance, lobby, dining area, and restrooms.
• Assist servers with stocking and maintaining service stations.
• Transport bus tubs to the dish room when needed.
• Clean and reset tables quickly, including chairs, booths, and surrounding areas.
• Take and enter take-out orders using the point-of-sale system.
• Process payments accurately and close checks.
• Thank guests for visiting and invite them to return.
• Complete assigned side work at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Be available to fill in as needed to support smooth restaurant operations, as directed by management.

Work Conditions

• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent reaching above and below waist level.
• Continuous use of hands for gripping, handling, and fine motor tasks.
• Long periods of standing on hard surfaces.
• Frequent walking and bending.
• Exposure to hot and cold environments (ovens, refrigerators, freezers).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent bending, squatting, and stooping for cleaning tasks.
• Occasional use of step stools for cleaning projects.
