Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Hourly Data Analyst (MS level) in Bioinformatics to support computational analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data in a multidisciplinary biomedical research environment. The successful candidate will assist with the analysis and interpretation of high-throughput sequencing datasets and collaborate with experimental and computational researchers.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform bioinformatics analysis of NGS datasets, including RNA-seq, RIP-seq, and related sequencing assays.
  • Process raw sequencing data, including quality control, alignment, quantification, and downstream analysis.
  • Develop and maintain analysis pipelines using standard bioinformatics tools and scripting languages.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and visualization of genomic data.
  • Assist in interpreting results and preparing figures, reports, and documentation for publications and presentations.
  • Work closely with laboratory researchers to integrate computational analysis with experimental design.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
  • MS degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with NGS data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, RIP-seq, ChIP-seq or similar).
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or similar scripting languages, and familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools for sequence alignment, differential expression analysis, and genomic data processing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate for this position is $25.00 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
