Hourly Driver

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of the Driver position is to meet the transportation needs of the company by combining superior customer service with uncompromising safety. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of fleet vehicles to prevent injury, protect company assets, and avoid economic loss. All CASA Trucking staff are expected to perform essential functions with a high degree of safety, legal compliance, and environmental responsibility.
This position is also responsible for complying with all Safety Work Rules at all times and reinforcing Safety as a Core Value. The driver must ensure that all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety and Quality are followed uniformly to reduce product and process variability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations related to commercial motor vehicle operation.
  • Comply with Hours of Service regulations and operate/maintain an electronic logging device.
  • Perform proper pre‑trip, en‑route, and post‑trip inspections as required by FMCSA regulations. Complete inspections on the electronic logging device and submit promptly. Ensure tractor, tanker, and trailer are in safe operating condition.
  • Inspect cargo to ensure proper loading, securing, and weight distribution before and during transport. Protect cargo from shifting, damage, and theft.
  • Load and unload full pallet freight as needed using walk‑behind power jacks.
  • Complete all required paperwork for cargo being hauled.
  • Communicate any variances promptly so corrective action can be taken.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and submit it in a timely manner.
  • Maintain courteous, cooperative, and respectful behavior at all times.
  • Follow safe work practices, GMPs, and HACCP guidelines; maintain sanitary conditions; and ensure product quality to support SQF certification.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may negatively impact food safety, product quality, or personnel safety.
  • Travel within PA and NJ and return home daily.
  • Properly fuel tractor and refrigerated trailer units.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid CDL driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a CDL medical examination.
  • Must comply with CASA Trucking’s substance and alcohol testing policy.
  • Must consent to CASA Trucking obtaining a copy of their motor vehicle driving record.
  • Must consent to the release of Drug and Alcohol information from the Drug and Alcohol Consortium.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to communicate effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
  • Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10s and 100s; ability to perform these operations using U.S. money, weight, volume, and distance measurements.
  • Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram‑based instructions; ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to obtain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification.
  • Ability to obtain a Tanker Endorsement on a valid CDL.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • Valid CDL Class A license with Tanker endorsement.
  • Familiarity with all state and federal regulations pertaining to commercial vehicle operation.
  • 2+ years of tractor‑trailer experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to obtain PIT certification and operate motorized power jacks and/or hand jacks.
  • Ability to crank landing gear/dolly legs up or down.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and the public.
  • Must successfully complete the 90‑day probationary period.
