SUMMARY

The housekeeping extern's primary goal is to learn, support, and contribute to the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department, while gaining hands-on experience in hotel cleanliness standards, guest service, teamwork, and overall departmental flow. The housekeeping extern's key responsibilities include ensuring each room meets a 96% quality expectation in a timely manner, uphold all service requirements consistent with a 4 Diamond property, and contribute to maintaining high levels of guest satisfaction through attention to detail and service consistency. Support departmental goals by working efficiently and cost consciously.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A housekeeping extern-ship provides hands-on experience in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and guest satisfaction within a hospitality setting such as a hotel, resort, or healthcare facility. Externs learn practical skills related to cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, room preparation, laundry operations, and inventory management.

Throughout the extern-ship, participants develop strong attention to detail, time-management abilities, and teamwork skills while working closely with housekeeping staff and supervisors. They gain exposure to industry health and safety regulations, communication practices, and the operational workflow that ensures a positive guest experience.

Overall, the extern-ship prepares individuals for entry-level roles in hospitality services by combining technical cleaning skills with professional workplace experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Must be reliable; willing to work weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to complete 12-16 vacant dirty room with-in 8 hour shift
  • Able to use different types of chemicals
  • Requires the ability to work independently and follow directions as assigned by supervisors
  • Must be able to complete standards according to established procedures
  • Strive to meet guest satisfaction by cleaning at a 96% cleanliness standard
