HR and Payroll Specialist

HR & Payroll Specialist

Responsible for managing payroll and supporting all human resources functions for a multi-location salvage, recycling, and transportation company. Ensures employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with company policies and all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple locations.

  • Maintain employee personnel files, payroll records, and HR documentation with a high level of confidentiality.

  • Coordinate new hire onboarding, orientation, employment verification, and offboarding.

  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.

  • Track employee attendance, PTO, FMLA, and other leave programs.

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and pre-employment screening.

  • Ensure compliance with DOT employment requirements, CDL driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing programs, and other transportation-related regulations.

  • Support workers' compensation claims, unemployment claims, and return-to-work programs.

  • Prepare payroll, HR, and labor reports for management.

  • Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, company policies, and HR procedures.

  • Assist with employee relations, performance documentation, disciplinary actions, and policy implementation.

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT, and labor regulations while supporting company safety initiatives.

  • Collaborate with managers to support staffing needs and workforce planning across all company locations.

  • Perform other administrative and HR-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in payroll processing and human resources administration.

  • Knowledge of payroll systems, HRIS software, and Microsoft Office.

  • Understanding of employment law, payroll regulations, and HR best practices.

  • Familiarity with DOT compliance and transportation industry regulations is preferred.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Offered compensation: $65,000/yr - $75,000/yr
