HR Benefits Specialist

About the Role:

The HR Benefits Specialist plays a critical role in managing and administering employee benefits programs to ensure competitive and compliant offerings that support employee well-being and organizational goals. This position is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of benefits enrollment, communication, and problem resolution, acting as a trusted resource for employees and management. The specialist will analyze benefits data, monitor trends, and recommend improvements to enhance the overall benefits experience. Collaboration with vendors, brokers, and internal HR teams is essential to maintain accurate and up-to-date benefits information. Ultimately, this role ensures that benefits programs are effectively delivered, compliant with regulations, and aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing employee benefits programs in a corporate environment.
  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and benefits administration software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees, vendors, and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification such as Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP.
  • Experience working with large, multi-state organizations and complex benefits plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze benefits data and generate actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with wellness program design and implementation.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and data reporting tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries, eligibility, claims, and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate open enrollment processes, ensuring clear communication and smooth execution across the organization.
  • Collaborate with benefits vendors and brokers to negotiate contracts, resolve issues, and stay informed on plan changes and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records and prepare reports to analyze program effectiveness and support decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to employee benefits, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
  • Develop and deliver employee communications and training materials to increase benefits awareness and utilization.
  • Support HR leadership in benefits strategy development and implementation aligned with organizational goals.
