Position Summary:

The People & Culture Director provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of People & Culture operations, including talent acquisition, employee relations, compliance, benefits, training, and organizational development. This role supports InCommunity’s mission by fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace where team members feel valued, supported, and equipped to provide excellent care and services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This position reports directly to the Chief People & Culture Officer and has 3-4 direct reports.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Partner with the CHRO and executive team to align People & Culture strategies with organizational goals.
  • Lead a team of People & Culture professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure operational excellence.
  • Monitor workforce metrics and trends to recommend improvements in recruitment, retention, and engagement.

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, providing guidance on performance, conflict resolution, and workplace culture.
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen employee engagement, recognition, and overall workplace satisfaction.
  • Ensure fair and consistent application of policies, procedures, and practices.

Talent Acquisition & Development

  • Oversee recruitment strategies to attract and retain qualified talent across all levels of the organization.
  • Support the development of training and professional growth opportunities for staff and leadership.
  • Partner with managers to build clear career paths and succession planning processes.

Compliance & Policy Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and update employee handbooks, policies, and procedures in alignment with best practices.
  • Support audits, accreditation, and licensing requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Partner with CHRO and Finance to manage compensation structures and benefits programs that are competitive and sustainable.
  • Educate employees on benefits and resources available to support their well-being.

Other Duties

  • Supports organization-wide events, volunteer initiatives, and special projects as needed.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.

Experience & Skills

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required and/or equivalency
  • Masters degree, a plus.

Experience

  • 6-8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a director-level role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, and best practices.
  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or IDD/disability services preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification a plus.

Travel Required

  • Occasional travel may be required for events, community meetings, or site visits.
