The Human Resources Generalist drives day-to-day HR operations for Vincent Lighting Systems (VLS), based out of our Cleveland office. Reporting to the VLS Senior Vice President of Operations, with a dotted line to the VP of Human Resources at Canterbury Capital, LLC (the owner of VLS), this role serves as a trusted resource for VLS employees. The HR Generalist manages policies and programs to foster an engaged and high-performing workforce while ensuring alignment with Canterbury Capital LLC’s overarching policies, ultimately serving to position VLS as an Employer of Choice.

Manages recruitment efforts, including job postings, interviews, and new employee onboarding and orientation.

Addresses employee concerns, resolves conflict, and fosters a positive employee experience.

Provides support to managers on HR-related issues.

Processes payroll accurately and on time, manages benefit enrollment, and responds to related questions.

Maintains accurate and confidential employee records, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and organizational policies.

Under the guidance of the SVP, Operations and/or the Canterbury VP, HR, develops, implements, and enforces organizational policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; conduct regular audits to maintain adherence to legal and industry standards.

Manages and oversees all employee leave of absence programs, including but not limited to Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, Workers’ Compensation, Short-Term Disability (STD), and Long-Term Disability (LTD).

Implements, and manages compensation programs that are competitive within the market,
ensuring alignment with VLS’s strategic goals and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Partners with Canterbury Capital’s HR VP to ensure alignment with overarching policies while tailoring HR practices to meet local operational needs.

Implements (and supports the development of) talent acquisition, retention, and succession planning strategies, ensuring compliance across all stages of the employment cycle from recruitment to separation in adherence to legal and industry standards.

Manages the performance management process and system to evaluate and improve employee outcomes.

Implements (and supports the creation of) training and development programs to advance employee skills and leadership potential.

Fosters strong interpersonal relationships across all levels of the organization.

Participates in safety committee initiatives to maintain a safe working environment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) preferred.

At least 5 years of progressive HR experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws, compensation strategies, HR best practices, and compliance requirements.

Proven experience in employee relations, recruitment, workforce planning, payroll processing, benefit administration, and HRIS systems.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to build relationships,
make data-driven recommendations and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The Human Resources Generalist will primarily operate from the Cleveland office, with occasional travel to the Cincinnati office as required. The office environment involves prolonged periods of sitting, extensive computer use, and participation in meetings. The position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, and navigate an office setting, which may include climbing stairs. Effective hearing and communication skills are essential, particularly in collaborative and occasionally noisy environments. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with additional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to meet business demands. This role requires up to 30% travel.
