Location: Greendale, WI (Supporting WI, IL, and IN locations)
Role Purpose:
To build and manage a modern HR function from the ground up. This role will lead the charge in finding great people for our retail and manufacturing teams while ensuring our current employees are supported through world-class benefits, clear policies, and a strong company culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Full-Cycle Recruiting (60% of time)
- The "Hustle": Manage the entire hiring process for retail (Sales/Design), manufacturing (Upholstery/Woodworking), and logistics (Drivers).
- Sourcing: Go beyond Indeed. Build relationships with local trade schools and design programs. Cold calling potential candidates and lead generation for key roles.
- Screening: Conduct initial interviews to ensure candidates align with Penny Mustard’s core values before they ever meet a store manager.
2. Benefits & Open Enrollment (15% of time)
- Health Insurance: Own the annual renewal process. You will be the point person for our brokers and help employees navigate their options.
- Education: Create simple, clear benefits guide so employees actually understand what they are buying.
3. Compliance & Policy (15% of time)
- Multi-State Law: Ensure we are compliant with varying labor laws in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana (overtime, leave laws, and safety).
- Handbook Management: Keep the Employee Handbook updated and ensure "at-will" and "safety" acknowledgments are signed and filed.
4. Employee Relations (10% of time)
- The "Open Door": Act as a neutral ground for employee concerns, performance issues, and coaching for managers who don’t have HR experience.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years in HR or Recruiting. Experience in Retail or Manufacturing is a huge plus.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with mid-market health insurance (HSAs/PPOs) and COBRA.
- Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and basic HR software.
- The "Penny Mustard" Fit: Must be a self-starter who doesn't need a corporate manual to know how to solve a problem.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
