Job Description - Head of HR for a 300-bedded multi-speciality hospital in Chennai.

Position: Head – Human Resources (HR)

Reports to: Medical Director

Role Summary

The Head of HR will lead the hospital’s Human Resource strategy, policies, and operations to

ensure a motivated, skilled, and compliant workforce. This role involves overseeing talent

acquisition, employee engagement, statutory compliance, training & development,

performance management, and HR operations in alignment with the hospital’s mission to

deliver high-quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic HR Leadership

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with hospital goals.
  • Advise leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and talent
  • management.
  • Drive culture-building initiatives to foster patient-centricity, teamwork, and
  • accountability.

2. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Ensure timely recruitment of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and support staff.
  • Develop partnerships with medical/nursing colleges for talent pipelines.
  • Oversee workforce planning based on bed occupancy, service expansion, and seasonal
  • variations.

3. Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Build strong employee engagement initiatives to improve retention, especially of
  • critical clinical staff.
  • Address employee grievances promptly while maintaining harmony.
  • Drive recognition and reward programs tailored to healthcare professionals.

4. Compliance & Legal

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, Clinical Establishments Act, Biomedical Waste
  • Management Rules, and other statutory requirements.
  • Handle audits/inspections from PF, ESI, labour department, NABH accreditations.
  • Maintain proper documentation of contracts, employee records, and HR policies.

5. Performance Management & Training

  • Implement structured performance appraisal systems for clinical and non-clinical
  • staff.
  • Identify training needs for continuous medical education, nursing skill enhancement,
  • and soft skills.
  • Develop leadership programs for departmental heads and supervisors.

6. Compensation & Benefits

  • Design competitive compensation structures in line with industry benchmarks.
  • Oversee payroll, dearness allowance revisions, incentive schemes, and benefits administration.
  • Ensure compliance with minimum wages and hospital wage board norms.

7. HR Operations

  • Finetune digitized HR processes (attendance, leave, payroll, employee self-service
  • portals).
  • Maintain optimal staff-patient ratio across departments.
  • Drive HR analytics (attrition rates, training ROI, manpower cost metrics).

Qualifications & Experience

  • MBA/PGDM in Human Resource Management (preferred).
  • 10-12 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in healthcare/hospital sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian labor laws and healthcare HR practices.
  • Exposure to NABH/JCI accreditation processes desirable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹960,000.00 - ₹1,874,023.86 per year
