Overview:
The HR Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of general Human Resources activities under the direction of the Human Resources Leaders. Compliance and best practices will be applied across all areas of HR (e.g., culture, onboarding, training and development, benefits, associate relations and performance evaluations, associate files, etc.) to continue to build and maintain Scheels' culture. Due to the nature of this position, a high level of confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Responsibilities:
Hiring
- Ensure jobs are posted to the appropriate job boards promptly
- Review and respond to all employment inquiries
- Schedule and conduct interviews with candidates and leadership teams
- Communicate with applicants and new hires promptly throughout the hiring process
- Work with leadership teams to create and deliver job offers and benefit overviews to candidates
- Develop proficient negotiating skills
- Review all new hire paperwork and ensure it is completed according to each deadline
- Administering pre-employment screenings, including criminal and drug screenings
- Participate in weekly hiring team meetings
- Partner with the hiring team to create plans for efficiency and effectiveness
Onboarding
- Manage the onboarding process for new associates to create the best Onboarding experience in retail
- Prepare and maintain associate employment paperwork
- Oversee all employee presence and candidate profiles in the applicant tracking system
Specialist
- Knowledge of HR practices, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal employment laws
- Promote Scheels' culture and benefits through regular and positive associate interactions
- Maintain tracking, training, and development of new associates
- Assist with benefits and total rewards education for associates
- Tracking and administration of the Scheels Gives Back program
- Support the benefits, payroll, and compliance teams with clerical duties
- Coordinate paperwork and exit interviews for associates
- Ability to be organized, multi-task, and maintain all aspects of human resources
- Handle sensitive/confidential documents, conversations, and other information
- Detail-oriented and maintains a high level of accuracy
- Strong computer skills
- Strong oral / written communication and presentation skills to communicate effectively and promptly with all levels of the organization
- Be professional in appearance and attitude; contribute to a positive team atmosphere by treating others with respect and consideration while taking pride in being part of a winning team
- Perform work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work the assigned schedule, which is typically Monday through Friday daytime hours, but may include some evening or weekend hours as needed

Education & Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred; and/or 1-2 years of Scheels and/or human resources experience.
Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand (for extended periods of time), bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.
Sedentary work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Roles are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
