Job Summary
The Human Resources & Safety Manager oversees all human resources functions and safety programs across the company’s ground maintenance and landscaping operations. This position ensures compliance with employment and safety regulations, supports workforce development, and promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety. The HR & Safety Manager acts as a strategic partner to management and a trusted resource for all employees in both office and field environments.
Human Resources Management
- Manage all HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with company goals and comply with state and federal labor laws.
- Maintain accurate employee records, timesheets, and documentation in accordance with company standards and confidentiality requirements.
- Coordinate payroll and employee benefits programs, including vacation, sick leave, and health insurance.
- Provide guidance to supervisors on employee relations, attendance, and performance management.
- Support management in workforce planning, employee retention, and professional development initiatives.
- Conduct exit interviews and ensure proper offboarding procedures.
Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to landscaping and grounds maintenance operations.
- Conduct routine job site safety inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Lead daily and weekly safety meetings (“toolbox talks”) and ensure safety topics are relevant to current field activities.
- Maintain safety documentation, including incident reports, training records, equipment inspection logs, and MSDS sheets.
- Investigate all incidents, injuries, and near misses; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all employees use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow proper safety procedures when operating machinery or handling chemicals.
- Work closely with supervisors and crew leaders to train employees on safe equipment operation, traffic control, and jobsite setup.
- Oversee compliance with DOT regulations for drivers and vehicle maintenance programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Safety Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in HR and/or Safety roles, preferably in landscaping, construction, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, employment laws, and workers’ compensation procedures.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred due to workforce diversity.
- Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and influence employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR/safety management systems.
- HR Certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP) and/or Safety Certification (OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR) preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Office-based with frequent visits to job sites and field operations.
- Exposure to outdoor working conditions, including varying weather.
- Must be able to walk job sites, observe field work, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Requires a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
