The Human Resources Department within the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (DWS) supports the agency's mission by managing all aspects of the employee lifecycle. HR provides recruitment and staffing, classification and compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with state and federal employment laws. Through these functions, HR ensures the workforce is fully supported, well-trained, and aligned to effectively deliver workforce development services and protect New Mexico's workers.

Why does the job exist?
The HR Assistant position exists to ensure the efficient and effective daily operation of the Human Resources Bureau by providing essential administrative and coordination support. This role enables HR staff to carry out critical functions such as recruitment, onboarding, compensation actions, payroll support, training coordination, and personnel file management. By managing scheduling, departmental activities, and the administration of required training programs including New Hire Orientation. The HR Assistant helps maintain compliance, continuity, and timely service delivery. This position is essential to supporting employees throughout the employment lifecycle and ensuring the HR Bureau can meet the operational needs of the Department of Workforce Solutions.
How does it get done?
1. Provide administrative support to the HR Bureau as well as the Administrative Services Department by processing new hire entries, personnel actions, and maintaining accurate employee personnel files and assist in trainings and coordinates travel of employees.
2. Assist with recruitment activities, including posting vacancies, coordinating interviews, and supporting hiring processes.
3. Support compensation-related actions and provide payroll assistance as needed to ensure timely and accurate processing.
4. Coordinate and support employee training activities, including scheduling, tracking participation, and assisting with training initiatives.
5. Proctor and administer on-line training courses, including New Hire Orientation, ensuring compliance and completion.
6. Schedule and coordinate departmental events, meetings, rooms, and classes.
7. Provide general clerical and customer service support to HR staff, Administrative Services staff employees, and walk-in visitors.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalency and six (6) months of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of this classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Travel may be required to include overnight stays.

Working Conditions
Office setting with face to face interaction with clients is a must. Sitting for long periods of time viewing computer monitor. Repetitive hand movement. Standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs.
