Human Resources Generalist

HR Generalist

Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)

Our nonprofit client in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support day‑to‑day human resources operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys mission‑driven work, can step into a hands‑on HR environment, and is comfortable balancing multiple priorities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support core HR functions including onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and employee records management.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions related to policies, payroll, benefits, leave, and general HR processes.
  • Assist with talent acquisition activities—posting roles, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, and communicating with candidates.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR files and HRIS data, ensuring compliance with organizational and legal requirements.
  • Support employee relations by documenting concerns, facilitating communication, and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Assist with HR projects such as process improvements, audits, trainings, and policy updates.


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of HR Generalist or HR Coordinator experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission‑focused environment.
  • Working knowledge of HR compliance, employment regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to employee support.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and work independently in a dynamic setting.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
