Human Resources Generalist

Reporting to the President, the HR Generalist is responsible for managing day-to-day HR operations and supporting a multi-state workforce across all core areas of human resources, including employee relations, benefits administration, payroll, recruiting, compliance, performance management, and training. This role partners closely with leadership to support organizational growth, employee engagement, and operational effectiveness while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws. This position works on-site at our HQ office located in Santa Cruz, CA with some with some potential for hybrid flexibility depending on project needs and other considerations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage full-cycle HR operations across benefits, compensation, payroll, employee relations, recruiting, and talent management for a multi-state workforce
  • Process bi-weekly multi-state payroll administration and maintain HRIS system
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, employee changes, reconciliations, reporting, and vendor coordination
  • Support benefits strategy initiatives, including broker and carrier management, cost optimization, and employee communications
  • Administer workers’ compensation programs, coordinate claims management, and maintain compliance with safety and reporting requirements
  • Drive full-cycle recruiting efforts including workforce planning, job postings, interviewing, onboarding, and orientation
  • Partner with managers and employees to address employee relations matters, provide policy guidance, conduct investigations, and support performance management processes
  • Develop and maintain performance management programs, including annual reviews, coaching support, and professional development initiatives
  • Draft, revise, and communicate HR policies, handbook updates, and employment-related procedures to ensure compliance and organizational consistency
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, personnel files, organizational charts, and HR documentation
  • Coordinate employee training, safety initiatives, recognition programs, and engagement activities
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide insights and recommendations to leadership
  • Manage and update job descriptions to reflect organizational and operational needs
  • Provide responsive HR support and guidance to employees and management regarding HR processes, policies, and best practices
  • Assist leadership with compensation reviews, salary adjustments, and maintaining competitive pay practices
  • Support organizational compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of progressive human resources experience in a generalist or similar HR role
  • Experience supporting multi-state HR operations and payroll administration
  • Knowledge of employment law, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR best practices
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems, including ADP or similar platforms
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience developing HR programs, policies, and process improvements preferred
  • Ability to bend and/or reach or sit for up to 3 hours at a time
  • Ability to occasionally lift/and or move up to 20 lbs
  • Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly view computer screen

COMPENSATION:

$73,000 – 86,000 annually

The compensation listed here is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range for the position posted. The compensation offered to the successful candidate depends on location, skills, experience, education, and other objective job-related factors.

Pay: $73,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
