Human Resources Generalist

Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Location: Houston, TX (supporting 3 BBQ restaurants)
Reports To: Company Ownership

We are a fast-growing, barbecue restaurant group known for delivering exceptional food and genuine hospitality. With three bustling locations and a strong team culture, we are looking for a hands-on HR Generalist to support our people, strengthen our processes, and help us scale.

Position Summary

The HR Generalist will be a sole contributor responsible for supporting all day-to-day human resources functions across three restaurant locations. This role requires someone who is highly organized, people-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with an hourly workforce.

You’ll serve as a key partner to operations leadership, ensuring compliance, improving employee experience, and helping build a strong, consistent culture across all locations.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Culture

· Act as a trusted resource for managers and employees across all locations

· Address employee concerns, conduct investigations, and resolve conflicts

· Promote a positive, respectful, and compliant workplace culture

· Support employee engagement initiatives and retention strategies

· Serve as point of contact for reported Workplace Injuries or accidents

Recruitment & Onboarding

· Manage full-cycle recruiting for hourly and salaried roles

· Partner with GMs to identify staffing needs and hiring plans

· Oversee onboarding process, including orientation and new hire paperwork

· Ensure a consistent and welcoming onboarding experience

Payroll Processing:

· Process bi-weekly payroll for multi-location restaurant operations, ensuring accurate and timely payment for hourly staff

· Work with store management to review and audit timecards, missed punches, and overtime across all locations

· Maintain payroll records in compliance with federal, state and local labor laws, including Texas wage and hour requirements

  • Coordinate payroll changes including new hires, terminations, rate changes, promotions, bonuses, garnishments, and direct deposit updates
  • Partner with store managers to verify labor hours, approve payroll discrepancies, and resolve employee payroll concerns
  • Administer tip pool allocations and ensure accurate reporting of declared tips and service charges
  • Ensure compliance with restaurant-specific payroll practices, including tipped employee wage regulations and holiday/event pay policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personnel information at all times
  • Troubleshoot payroll system issues and communicate with payroll vendors or providers as needed

Compliance & HR Administration

· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws (FLSA, EEOC, etc.)

· Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files

· Oversee I-9 completion, audits and record retention

· Ensure proper employee classification in ADP

· Maintain and update employee handbook and policies

· Help create and administer policies and procedures as needed

· Manage safety programs and ensure compliance

Performance Management

· Support managers with coaching, disciplinary actions, and documentation

· Help implement performance review processes

· Track and monitor employee performance trends

Benefits & HR Programs

· Manage benefits administration and employee questions

· Support open enrollment and ongoing benefits communication

· Help implement HR initiatives that improve retention and engagement

· Manage COBRA administration

· Manage required reporting within our payroll tool

Qualifications

· 2–5 years of HR experience (hospitality or restaurant experience strongly preferred)

· Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, COBRA, FMLA

· Experience supporting hourly, high-turnover workforces

· Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

· Highly organized with strong attention to detail

· Ability to work in a fast paced environment

· Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

· Experience processing payroll for hourly employees

· Experience with ADP is a plus

· SHRM or PHR certified is a plus

· Some travel is required to visit locations
