Full-Time Permanent
Salary: Range 49 $53,136-$71,472 annually Depending on Qualifications

We are seeking a dedicated Human Resources Generalist to serve as the first point of contact for HR services in our Lacey HQ office - someone who is approachable, resourceful, and enjoys working with people. Who We Are
The Washington State Gambling Commission is a state accredited; limited-jurisdiction law enforcement agency whose mission is to protect the public by ensuring that gambling is legal and honest. We are the second oldest gambling agency in the country and the only statewide agency that licenses and regulates an estimated $3.5 billion gambling industry comprised of Tribal, commercial, and nonprofit businesses.

Duties

  • HR Consultation: Provide first-level HR support via in-person visits, email, and phone. Advise staff on policies, procedures, and programs, referring complex issues as needed. Assist with leave programs, performance management, training, and workplace safety.
  • Personnel Documentation: Prepare and manage correspondence for hires, transfers, separations, and compensation changes. Maintain accurate records in the Human Resource Management System (HRMS), ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Recruitment & Employment: Coordinate diversity outreach through job postings and attendance at job fairs. Support the HRC4s in the recruitment process, including scheduling background check requirements (exams, polygraphs, medical exams, etc.)
  • Employee Relations: Lead new employee orientation and manage the employee service recognition program. Assist with internship program development and employee engagement events.
  • HR Team Support: Maintain HR records and web page, contribute to HR program development, participate in staff meetings, and support administrative functions.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of paid paraprofessional HR related experience OR one year of paid professional HR related experience.
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using an HR Information Systems
Required Competencies (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  • Ability and willingness to consistently report to our Lacey Headquarters office location.
  • A strong foundation in HR practices and a desire to keep learning.
  • Ability to work independently and plan and prioritize tasks/responsibilities.
  • Ability to compose/prepare correspondence and create/generate reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism
  • Detail-oriented and organized; able to manage multiple tasks
  • Professional and approachable demeanor with strong interpersonal skills
Note:

Within Washington State government, the Human Resource Consultant Assistant job class series is considered paraprofessional level. The professional HR level begins at Level 1 of the HR Consultant job class series.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Washington State government HR experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill with Washington State HRMS, in both personnel and organizational management processing.
  • Intermediate skills in recruitment software, preferably NEOGOV.
  • Strong knowledge of employment related WACs, RCWs, and federal laws.
  • Professional HR certification through SHRM or HRCI.
