HVAC & Facilities Maintenance Technician

Compensation: $26.44 – $31.73 per hour
Estimated Annual Salary: $75,000 – $80,000
Schedule: Monday – Friday (occasional after-hours/emergency support may be required)

Location: Daily travel between sites (sites located in Phoenix, Tempe, Chandler and Tucson)

Position Overview

Sonoran Schools is seeking a dependable, productive, and experienced HVAC & Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our dedicated team. This is a hands-on, full-time role ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, fixing things, and maintaining a safe and comfortable learning environment.

You will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and daily operational upkeep of school facilities, including HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing, and general building systems. This is a great opportunity for a skilled technician who values stability, variety, and purpose in their work.

Key Responsibilities

HVAC Maintenance & Repair

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair light-commercial HVAC systems, including split systems, rooftop units, air handlers, and thermostats
  • Conduct scheduled and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and energy efficiency
  • Communicate HVAC issues and recommended solutions clearly to school administrators
  • Accurately document service work, equipment information, and diagnostic data
  • Recommend system upgrades, energy-efficient equipment replacements, and maintenance solutions
  • Maintain a clean and organized inventory of HVAC parts, materials, and tools

Facilities Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform routine facility repairs in classrooms, offices, restrooms, cafeterias, and outdoor areas
  • Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, ballasts, and other routine maintenance items
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing issues (e.g., leaky faucets, clogged drains, drinking fountains)
  • Perform minor roof repairs and coordinate external services for larger issues
  • Patch drywall, paint, and complete basic carpentry tasks
  • Maintain and repair door hardware, locks, windows, and fencing
  • Assist with basic electrical repairs, such as replacing outlets or resetting breakers
  • Maintain playground and outdoor equipment for safety and function
  • Respond to maintenance work orders and urgent repair requests promptly
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify and proactively address issues
  • Set up or move furniture and equipment as needed for events and classroom needs
  • Support janitorial tasks in emergencies or when needed

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repair
  • Experience in general facility maintenance or building repairs strongly preferred
  • EPA Universal Certification required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean, insurable driving record
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Positive attitude, professional appearance, and a commitment to high standards
  • NATE Certification is a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, and perform physical labor in various weather conditions
