Some of what you'll be doing:

As a licensed and experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Technician, you will help us maintain our commercial properties. You will provide quality maintenance repairs, ensuring our equipment/buildings are operating properly and efficiently.

You will service and repair the environmental control systems and equipment such as heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (“HVAC”) systems, heat pumps, and chillers installed in building managed by the Marine Maintenance team.
You will visit customers throughout the Maritime division in order to service and repair equipment and respond to emergencies immediately and drive a Port vehicle that will contain Port tools.
You will represent the Port while performing repair, maintenance, and delivering excellent customer service to our internal and external customers throughout the Port.

Who you are:
  • Experienced – Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of HVACR systems; Or two (2) years of technical school HVACR coursework; Or
    a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class, relative to the required licenses.
  • Licenses – At point of hire, or within 90 days of hire, the following licenses must be provided: (*note – the 90-day post hire option is only available on a case-by-case basis, upon review and confirmation that candidate specific gaps to meet required steps for licensing, can be achieved in 90 days or less.) City of Seattle Refrigeration Mechanic’s License class A - requires three (3) years of experience conducting refrigeration repair and installation, as an apprentice to, or as a journeyman refrigeration and/or air conditioning mechanic; or two (2) years of training in a recognized school of technology, combined with one (1) year of experience in the refrigeration trade; or two (2) years full-time experience in the refrigeration trade and graduation from a recognized trade school of refrigeration technology. EL06A Washington State Electrician Specialty License - requires a minimum of 4,000 hours of work experience under the supervision of a journey-level electrician. EPA CFC Universal Certificate - requires you to pass each of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tests for Types Core, I, II and III.
  • Desired – We hope you have experience in independently troubleshooting HVAC systems, working both alone and as part of a team, following written and verbal instructions, and effectively prioritizing tasks while managing competing demands.

What else you need to know:
  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be 5 days, 8-hour shift, or 4 days, 10-hour shift. Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some of this work requires overtime/night work. You must be flexible if tasks need to be performed beyond the normal work schedule. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements – You must comply with all Marine Maintenance work rules, shop safety requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
  • Union Representation – This position is represented by Union Local 32.
