HVAC Lab Technician - (Part-Time, Grant Funded)

This HVAC Lab Tech supports the HVAC degree and certificate programs via the management of HVAC labs at the downtown Dayton campus and at the Eaker Street facility. This position is responsible for the preventive maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment within these labs as well as maintaining consumable material stock and ensuring proper tools and instrumentation are available, calibrated, and in good working condition. This position provides a certain degree of continuity for students in lab activities by working with adjunct instructors on defined lab experiences.

The hourly pay rate for this position is $29.62 and has a maximum of 28 hours per week.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Clean, repair and maintain lab equipment and space
  • Maintain supply inventory, purchase supplies and equipment as required
  • Move and install equipment within the lab
  • Provide oversight for safe lab practices and conditions
  • Assist instructors in performing lab activities within scheduled class periods
  • Assist students in open labs
  • Consolidate lab equipment, tools and instruments for student lab activities
  • Provide lab tours
  • Attend Department and Divisional meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in HVAC preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of HVAC experience including HVAC skills in areas of service, maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair required; such experience and education may be provided by any number of certificates obtained through attendance of professional seminars or similar experiences
  • Journeyman or equivalent status in HVAC preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and staff required
  • Strong background in HVAC control systems required
  • Strong experience with Niagara Workbench required; Niagara N4 certification preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in configuring and managing JACE 8000 controllers preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of communication protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, and LON preferred
  • Ability to clearly explain and demonstrate correct repair techniques to students in a hands-on learning environment required
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty on design and installation when necessary, of appropriate lab experiences required
