The Orange County Asset Management Services Department has an opening for a HVAC Lead Technician. The work involves responsibility for the oversight, management, and maintenance of all HVAC systems (refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and heating) for Orange County facilities. Work involves determining the factors that affect the heating, ventilation and cooling process and finding solutions to solve problems and to ensure system compliance is as per plans and specifications to ensure that temperature, humidity, and air quality systems are properly working to meet ASHRAE standards and County policies.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager or Assistant AMS Director with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties. This position does not directly supervise staff but will direct and lead staff when necessary. Does related work as required.
This classification requires the ability to provide on-call response to after-hours emergencies, on-call rotation, inclement weather conditions and emergency community response.

Hiring range for fully qualified applicants up to $90,192
Unique hiring situation for an applicant with experience but without certs- Hiring range to $80,000 and County will support paid 6 hours per week for studying for exams, pay for all books and exam fees for the North Carolina HVAC H3 license with a $10K increase once certs are obtained.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of High School Diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND five (5) years of work experience working in the commercial/industrial sector AND
Possession of North Carolina HVAC H3 license and Universal EPA chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification to handle refrigerants is preferred.
Knowledge of Siemens Insight and Carrier I-VU controls systems (or similar controls systems) to monitor and adjust temperatures and equipment is preferred.
Industrial Systems Technology – HVAC certification or additional certifications in chiller or boiler system operations and maintenance is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to provide on-call response to after-hours emergencies, on-call rotation, inclement weather conditions and emergency community response.
Must be dedicated to being on-time, working safely and team engagement.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver License issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
