HVAC & Refrigeration Service Technician

Overview

ROC Electrical is hiring an experienced HVAC & Refrigeration Service Technician to perform diagnostics, repairs, and installations on commercial HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, ice machines, and light kitchen equipment.

This is a field service position working primarily in restaurants and commercial facilities. The role focuses on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and equipment replacement, with a primary emphasis on HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Core Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems (RTUs, split systems, package units)
  • Service and repair commercial refrigeration systems and ice machines
  • Perform equipment installations and replacements (HVAC units, condensers, evaporators, ice machines)
  • Troubleshoot kitchen equipment issues (basic electrical/mechanical diagnostics on hot-side and prep equipment)
  • Read and use schematics and wiring diagrams for accurate troubleshooting
  • Perform preventive maintenance and system inspections
  • Identify issues quickly and recommend proper solutions (not guesswork)
  • Document work performed with clear service notes
  • Communicate professionally with customers and office staff
  • Maintain a clean, organized job site and service vehicle

Additional Skills (Preferred)

  • Electrical troubleshooting (circuits, contactors, relays, controls)
  • Basic plumbing related to equipment (water lines, drains)
  • Experience with commercial kitchen equipment (griddles, fryers, ovens)
  • Experience working in restaurant environments

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years experience in HVAC and/or refrigeration service
  • EPA Certification (required)
  • Strong diagnostic ability (not a parts changer)
  • Experience with installs and equipment replacement
  • Ability to work independently in the field
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $30–$45/hr (DOE)
  • Sign-On Bonus: $500 after 90 days

Advancement & Earning Potential

Technicians who demonstrate strong performance, leadership, and technical ability will have the opportunity to grow into a Lead Technician role.

Lead Tech responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with job walks and project planning
  • Putting together quotes for equipment replacements and installs
  • Managing and executing install work

Lead Technicians are eligible for profit-sharing opportunities on installs they help estimate and complete, creating additional earning potential beyond hourly pay.

Top performers have the ability to significantly increase their income through install-related profit sharing.
