HVAC Technician

The HVAC Technician will utilize strong knowledge of components and systems to install, repair, modify, calibrate heating/ventilating/air conditioning systems and instrumentation using technical bulletins, Qnity engineering standards, blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical knowledge and analysis in conjunction with various manual and power-operated tools with the objective of placing new or existing machines and instruments in their specified operating condition.

As an HVAC Technician, you will:
  • Install, repair, calibrate H.V.A.C./Refrigeration systems, and
electronic/pneumatic control system devices.

  • Monitor systems using pressure and vacuum gage manifolds.
  • Install, repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, switches, fan controls, bearings, motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, safety valves and other equipment as necessary.
  • Measures and makes metal guards and ducting, bends, shapes, thread metal piping.
  • Measures and monitors air flows, pressure differential, AHU output air volume for ductwork distribution control. Making adjustments as directed.
  • Make piping connections and secures or suspends all piping according to specifications.
  • Use acetylene torches and welding equipment.
  • Uses analytical ability to solve electrical/electronic problems following wiring diagrams.
  • Possess knowledge of single and three phase electrical systems.
  • Ensures all wiring conforms to Qnity engineering standards and the National Electric Code
  • Identifies problems in control systems per production request and personal observation, then implements the proper action to restore the system to standard operating conditions.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) according to defined schedules and procedures including routine calibration of instruments.
  • Use area specific safety procedures and specific safety rules such as LTCT, PPE and electrical safety rules.
  • Provide basic process automation support as needed.
  • Participate in HVAC reliability improvement activities as appropriate (e.g. spare parts list generation).
  • May be required to participate in on-call duties as needed.
  • Redline electrical drawings, engineering documentation and other technical documentation as necessary and work with the appropriate resources to update.
  • As necessary, provide input and support for the design, installation, and upgrade of HVAC systems.
  • Make recommendations and prepare orders for spare parts, additional stock room items, tools, etc.
  • Consult with supervisor and other mechanics on problem resolution/troubleshooting.
  • Keep supervisor informed of problems or issues.
  • Understand and use SAP to acquire and disburse stores material as required.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Have a 2-year technical degree within HVAC or completion of a formal HVAC Technician apprentice program.
  • Required to have an EPA Refrigerant Certification.
  • Five (5)+ years of relevant work experience within the HVAC field is preferred.
  • Work experience on HVAC systems, and component maintenance is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatics is preferred.
  • Trained in Electrical Safety NFPA-70E is preferred.
  • Good organizational, communication and time management skills, and a strong attention to detail is imperative.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team with strict adherence to all Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Candidates must have good comprehension and work experience using calibration principals.
  • Ability to read drawings and technical manuals for guidance when performing necessary operations for the installation and/or repair of equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include safety equipment, earplugs, respirator, gloves, safety glasses, hardhats, clean room attire, and steel-toed shoes.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to stand; walk (up and down stairs); twist; bend; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work weekday, day or rotating shift structure, and overtime as needed on a regular basis, if required.
  • Participate on the site Emergency Response Team (ERT).
