HVDC Machinist

The opportunity
Hitachi Energy in Alamo, TN is seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Machinist to set up, operate, and optimize multi-axis CNC equipment in a high-mix, low-volume environment. This role plays a key part in producing highly engineered transformer components for grid and electrification applications. How you’ll make an impact
- Become overhead crane certified (or obtain certification upon hire)
- Set up and operate Mazak and DMG Mori multi-axis turn-mill centers and CNC lathes
- Operate robot integrated turn-mill systems for improved productivity and consistency
- Run horizontal machining centers (HMCs) with pallet pool systems for high-efficiency and lights-out production
- Perform tooling setup, offsets, and fixture alignment
- Monitor machining performance and make adjustments to optimize quality, cycle time, and efficiency
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up and operate Mazak (Mazatrol) and DMG Mori (CELOS/Mitsubishi) equipment
- Run automated turn-mill machines with robotic part handling systems
- Operate HMCs with pallet pool automation for continuous production
- Execute tool changes, offsets, and fixture setups
- Monitor machine output and proactively adjust processes
Programming & Process Improvement
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T
- Edit and modify G-code, Mazatrol, or CELOS programs in alignment with Alamo programming standards
- Collaborate with engineering to improve cycle times, tool life, and process reliability
- Support automation initiatives, including robotic integration and lights-out manufacturing
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and program issues
Quality & Inspection
- Perform in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision tools
- Ensure components meet tight tolerances and surface finish requirements
- Document and maintain inspection and quality records
Tooling & Maintenance
- Troubleshoot machining and tooling issues to minimize downtime
- Perform daily and preventive maintenance per CCL and TPM standards
- Support tool life management and inventory control
Your background
- Vocational certificate in Machining (or equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of formal education)
- CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience with:
- Multi-axis turn-mill machining
- Turning centers
- Horizontal machining centers with pallet pool systems
- Mazak (Mazatrol) and/or DMG Mori (CELOS/Mitsubishi) controls
- Strong understanding of G-code programming and machining fundamentals
- Ability to read blueprints and apply GD&T principles
- Experience holding tolerances on precision components
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and standard work practices
- Willingness to travel for training for a week if required.
