BHIG-Blue Hydrogen Industrial Gases is a regional development and investment joint venture (JV) between Saudi Aramco and Air Products Qudra (APQ). BHIG supports clean energy goals through low-carbon hydrogen production and focuses on industrial innovation and operational excellence across Saudi Arabia and the region.

Purpose

Develop, deliver, and manage comprehensive training programs that foster a highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the Hydrogen production plant.

Nature & Scope

The HYCO Training Specialist, reporting to the Training Lead, is accountable for managing the technical training program and executing the training for the Operations & Maintenance staff for the Jubail HYCO Facility. The facility includes steam methane reformer (SMR), CO2 removal, MBU, PSA, STG units, and pipeline operations. The Training Specialist will work with Engineering, HR, Procurement, and HSSE to develop and manage a long-term training program for the Operations & Maintenance teams, focusing on operational excellence to ensure safe and reliable site operation. The HYCO Training Specialist is part of the operating staff and will support operations as a day-to-day function.

Principal Accountabilities

SAFETY

Provide and maintain a safe work environment. Demonstrate leadership with all company and industry safe work processes to prevent injuries. Ensure proper implementation and documentation for safety-related activities.

TECHNICAL

  • Provide direction and guidance based on technical feedback from Engineering and Maintenance on training required for troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities.
  • Provide training support and guidance for the Operations & Maintenance teams during commissioning and startup of the facility. Maintain accurate document control and monitor training initiatives, documenting training activities for each Operations staff.
  • Develop training curriculum with periodic testing for the Operations & Maintenance staff to track progression, identify gaps, and ensure personnel are prepared to operate the facility in a timely manner.
  • Develop advanced training material for the senior operators focusing on safety and efficiency of the process.

OPERATIONS

  • Ensure the safety of all operations personnel by utilizing the BHIG Basic Safety Practice program, including Safety Work Permits, LOTO, Confined Space, etc. Train Operations & Maintenance personnel with assistance from the HSSE team in planning, organizing, auditing, and follow-up to build Air Products safety culture into BHIG.
  • Establish and deliver a training program for the HYCO Operations & Maintenance teams while supporting commissioning activities.
  • Ensure Air Products and BHIG standards, and global best practices for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and customer service are delivered as part of the training program.
  • Provide guidance to the HYCO operating & maintenance teams through on-the-job training to ensure the HYCO is operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contractual requirements and on-stream guarantees.
  • Support and maintain close working relationships with engineering and maintenance personnel to continuously monitor and evaluate training packages, enhancing when required.
  • Provide operations support and participate in investigations and root cause analysis to identify and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Own the operations procedures and train on new procedures as they are developed through the Management of Change Process.
  • Onboard new Operators and Maintenance personnel and lead them through the training program, monitoring performance and closing gaps.
  • Act as a liaison with local technical schools, assisting in developing programs for students sponsored by BHIG in HYCO technology.
Minimum Requirements And Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Process Operations, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a 2-year technical school certificate.
  • Certified Training Certificate Required.
  • Experience in process plant operation, demonstrated HYCO knowledge, at least 15+ years HYCO operations experience, with >5 years in a lead or supervisory role is a plus.
  • Track record of success on training Operations & Maintenance in the safe and reliable operation of HYCO facilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and proven interpersonal skills.
  • A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity.
  • Knowledgeable in the coordination of operations and maintenance personnel, communicating the requirements of safe and reliable plant operations via classroom and hands-on training.
  • Good leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels within the organization and externally.
  • Promotes a 'one team' environment.
  • Ability to communicate and train at all levels on a daily basis.
  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local environmental and health and safety requirements.
