Key Responsibilities – Hydraulic System Design in the Automotive Industry

  • Lead the design and development of hydraulic systems for automotive applications, including brakes, steering, suspension, and transmission components.
  • Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings, hydraulic schematics, and technical documentation to ensure product functionality and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, testing, manufacturing, and sales) to deliver innovative hydraulic solutions tailored to evolving automotive requirements.
  • Engage directly with clients, suppliers, and project partners, providing expert technical advice and responding proactively to technical and commercial inquiries.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, performance assessments, and failure mode analysis to inform design optimisations and drive product reliability.
  • Support product lifecycle activities from initial concept through to launch, ensuring projects are delivered to schedule, specification, and budget.

Essential Technical Knowledge – Automotive Hydraulic Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience with the design, selection, and integration of hydraulic components, such as pumps, actuators, valves, cylinders, hoses, and fittings for automotive systems.
  • Strong grasp of hydraulic theory, fluid mechanics, and vehicle dynamics as applied to passenger, commercial, or high-performance vehicles.
  • Ability to perform advanced calculations, simulations, and data analysis to validate design approaches and support troubleshooting activities.
  • Working knowledge of automotive standards (ISO, SAE, and relevant regional regulations) and an understanding of quality, safety, and environmental compliance in the context of hydraulic design.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, simulation tools, and hydraulic modelling platforms essential for contemporary automotive design.

Communication Skills – Effective Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Articulate complex technical information clearly and confidently, adapting style for technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Foster open, professional communication across project teams and with external partners, ensuring all parties are aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Document and present engineering progress, test outcomes, and technical challenges to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Nurture strong client relationships, establishing trust and credibility through prompt, accurate, and solutions-oriented responses.

Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking – Driving Innovation in Automotive Hydraulics

  • Approach engineering problems proactively, identifying root causes and formulating innovative, cost-effective solutions.
  • Champion continuous improvement, leveraging insights from testing and customer feedback to drive design enhancements.

Qualifications & Experience – Automotive Hydraulic Design Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Fluid Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of3 years’ professional experience in the design or development of hydraulic systems for automotive or related engineering sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD, hydraulic simulation tools, and relevant engineering software.
  • experience with Automation studio or solidworks mandatory
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to deliver results against challenging deadlines.
