We are seeking a Hydrogeologist 2 to join the Hydrology Division, Field Services Section to join our team!

Job Duties:

Knowledge:

• Practical working knowledge of groundwater and techniques for measuring, sampling or investigating groundwater
• Knowledge of the behavior and occurrence of water in nature
• How monitoring and sampling programs work
• Information sources, research methods, and techniques utilized in water resources management
• Computer applications and equipment, including Excel, Word, Access, Oracle and GPS
• Current concepts and practices in water resource management
• System of land/property description and identification used in the State of Arizona

Skills:

• The use of field equipment and field testing/measurement activities
• Coordinating and conducting field investigations and maintaining an effective working relationship with team members, agency employees and with the public
• Preparing timely reports/recommendations involving water resources issues of highly complex, sensitive and visible nature
• Drawing maps or sketches based on survey data, aerial photographs, and field observations/measurements
• Using spreadsheets and databases to organize, analyze and interpret water resource management data
• Applying a multi-disciplinary approach to resolve complex, sensitive, and/or visible water resource management issue
• Must have the skills to be able to read and interpret hydrogeologic reports and data.
• Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer to query and create relational databases of monitoring data, well construction, and other hydrogeologic information.
• Coordinating and conducting field investigations and maintaining an effective working relationship with team members, agency employees and with the public.
• Effective written and verbal communication.

Ability to:

• Research, apply concepts and carry out instructions, and to coordinate numerous activities as directed by supervisor.
• Use computers and analytical methods to retrieve, organize, and present data
• Use and be acquainted with common tools and field services instruments. (sounder, steel tape, hand tools, various discharge measurement devices, transducers, GPS, topographic maps, computers and 4x4 trucks)
• Drive off-road 4x4 to well sites, lift equipment 10-20 lbs. with flexibility to maneuver around well site.
• Mix concrete, pour well pad, install sounding tube, well shelter, mast and other automated equipment
• Apply concepts and instruction provided within the context of the data collection duties assigned
• Interpret/explain and ensure compliance with state and Federal water management statutes and Department policies and procedures
• Be polite and courteous, as this position will often deal with the public.
• Interpret geologic, hydrologic and topographic maps and reports
• Be comfortable with working outdoors and traveling statewide and be able to adapt to changing conditions.

This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)

This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geology, hydrology, or a related field, or a related field, and two years of hydrologic or a related experience; or a Master's degree in one of the above fields.
