Key duties and responsibilities
- Patient monitoring and assessment: Continuously monitor and document vital signs, evaluate patient progress, and identify changes in condition.
- Medication administration: Administer medications and manage intravenous (IV) infusions, including titrating critical drips.
- Life support and equipment management: Operate and monitor life-support equipment such as ventilators and cardiac monitors, and ensure their proper function.
- Emergency response: Respond promptly to medical emergencies and perform necessary interventions, including providing life-saving care.
- Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, other nurses, and the rest of the healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Patient and family support: Provide emotional support to patients and their families, educate them on treatment plans, and answer their questions.
- Procedures and diagnostics: Assist with diagnostic procedures and tests and ensure patient safety during these processes.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Required qualifications and skills
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN).
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are typically required.
- Skills: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Experience: Experience with high-stress situations, operating advanced medical equipment, and performing technical skills like IV insertion is beneficial.
