Located in the heart of Brooklyn’s Caribbean community, CWHA’S Immigration Legal Services Program offers high-quality immigration legal services aimed at protecting New York City residents and reuniting immigrants with their families.
Our attorneys provide representation to community members on a variety of affirmative immigration services including family-based visa petitions, Adjustment of Status applications, DACA, TPS, Naturalization, green card renewals, Removal of Conditions for certain Lawful Permanent Residents, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and other forms of relief.

CWHA seeks a, experienced, passionate, mission-driven junior staff attorney to provide immigration legal services to immigrants from our Flatbush-based office.
Full Job Description:
Reports to: Supervising Attorney
Roles and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Maintain a robust caseload focusing on family-based visa petitions, Adjustment of Status applications, DACA renewals, TPS, Naturalization, green card renewals, removal of conditions for certain Lawful Permanent Residents, and other relief. Work requires meeting with clients for initial consultations and preparing applications for submission to USCIS and family court in all 5 boroughs in NYC.
  • Provide representation at USCIS interviews for both Naturalization and marriage-based green card cases.
  • Capacity permitting provides direct representation to clients for more complex forms of immigration relief and deportation defense.
  • Perform case-related administrative duties, including maintaining accurate, complete and confidential case files and case management using legal software (e-immigration).
  • Comply with all city and state grant reporting requirements. Track and report comprehensive data regarding both the clients represented and the services provided under each respective grant.
Qualifications, Education, and experience required:
  • Juris Doctor (JD)
  • Admitted to the Bar in the State of New York
  • At least 2 (two) years of post-JD experience in immigration law, representing clients in affirmative relief applications to USCIS and/or in removal defense. But we will consider all clinical experience as well.
  • Prior experience supervising staff and/or reporting on a legal program’s efforts.
Skills and/or competencies preferred:
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and commitment to working with immigrants, low-income clients, and communities of color to advance equity.
  • Bilingual: Fluency in English and Haitian Creole and/or Spanish is a plus.
  • Excellent writing, research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, advocate effectively and proactively resolve issues or problems.
  • Adept at managing competing priorities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, planning and time management skills.
  • Strong respect for accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Salary between $70,000 – $80,000 depending on experience.
