In-Home Animal Care Professional

Zippy Pets is a growing, professional in-home pet care company serving Asheville, Western North Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina. We provide high-quality services including dog walks, hikes, drop-in visits, house sitting, and pet transportation.

Position Overview

As an In-Home Animal Care Professional, you will provide personalized care for pets in their home environment. This includes attending to physical, emotional, and medical needs while maintaining high standards of safety, communication, and professionalism.

This is not strictly a “drop-in only” role—overnight capability is part of being a full-service professional with Zippy Pets.

This is a part-time, contract position with opportunities to grow into a larger role based on performance and client demand.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, in-home care for pets including feeding, walking, enrichment, and medication administration
• Safely and confidently handle animals of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments
• Monitor and report on pet health, behavior, and any changes or concerns
• Administer medications as directed by clients (oral, topical, and other methods as applicable)
• Perform structured dog walks and/or hikes in a variety of environments and conditions
• Maintain clean and sanitary pet areas (food bowls, litter boxes, waste disposal, etc.)
• Complete light household tasks related to pet care (mail retrieval, trash, plant watering, package handling)
• Ensure homes are properly secured after each visit
• Provide detailed visit updates with notes and photos via the Time To Pet app
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and team members via Telegram
• Attend client meet-and-greets and represent Zippy Pets with professionalism and care
• Follow all company procedures, client instructions, and safety protocols precisely

Qualifications

• Prior experience in animal care in a professional or structured setting (e.g., veterinary clinic, vet tech/assistant, kennel, shelter, or established pet care business)
• Strong animal handling skills and comfort working with a wide range of temperaments and breeds
• Experience administering or assisting with medications is highly preferred
• Ability to observe and recognize changes in animal behavior or health
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and client-facing professionalism
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time independently across multiple clients
• Comfortable working independently while maintaining accountability to a team
• Willingness to use technology platforms (Time To Pet, Telegram) for scheduling and communication
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass a background check
• Physically able to walk dogs in varied terrain and lift up to 50 lbs when needed

Schedule Expectations

• Part-time to start, with opportunities for growth
• Availability for some weekends and holidays required
• Overnight availability is preferred and may be required on a case-by-case basis depending on client needs
• Candidates comfortable with occasional overnight stays will have additional earning opportunities
• Preference for candidates seeking a long-term professional role rather than seasonal or short-term work

Pay & Benefits

• Paid per visit: average $15–25+ per visit plus tips and additional pet pay
