POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are currently hiring PRN (as-needed) Personal Care Assistants in the Birmingham, Alabama area and surrounding communities. As a PCA with Angelic Hearts, you will provide hands-on personal care and assistance to clients in their own homes — helping them maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life every single day. WHAT YOU'LL DO —
PERSONAL CARE DUTIES
As a Personal Care Assistant, you will provide direct, hands-on care including:
- PERSONAL HYGIENE & GROOMING
- Assist clients with bathing, showering, and sponge baths
- Help with oral hygiene including brushing teeth and denture care
- Assist with hair care, shaving, and nail care
- Help clients with dressing and undressing
- Assist with skin care and application of lotions as directed
- MOBILITY & TRANSFERS
- Assist clients with safely getting in and out of bed
- Help with transferring to and from wheelchairs, chairs, and vehicles
- Assist with walking and ambulation to prevent falls
- Help with range of motion exercises as directed in care plan
- Use proper body mechanics and safety techniques at all times
- NUTRITION & MEAL SUPPORT
- Assist with meal planning and preparation based on dietary needs
- Help clients with eating and drinking if needed
- Monitor food and fluid intake and report concerns to the office
- Assist with grocery shopping and errand running
- PERSONAL LIVING ASSISTANCE
- Assist with toileting, incontinence care, and catheter care as directed
- Help with changing adult briefs and maintaining skin integrity
- Perform light housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Assist with laundry and linen changes
- Provide medication reminders (non-medical)
- COMPANIONSHIP & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
- Provide meaningful companionship, conversation, and emotional support
- Accompany clients to medical appointments, therapy, and community outings
- Encourage client participation in activities and hobbies
- Report any physical or emotional changes in the client to the office promptly
- DOCUMENTATION
- Accurately document all services provided during each visit
- Complete visit notes and time records as required by the agency
- Report any concerns, incidents, or changes in client condition immediately
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- Genuine compassion and dedication to client care
- Reliable, punctual, and professional at all times
- Ability to perform hands-on personal care tasks with dignity and respect Ability to lift, transfer, and assist clients safely (up to 50 lbs)
- Ability to pass an Alabama criminal background check
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Social Security card
- Negative TB test results (within the last 12 months)
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before starting)
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
- Must be 18 years of age or older Legally authorized to work in the United States
- No physical limitations that would prevent performing personal care duties
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification — highly preferred
- Previous PCA, HHA, or personal care experience — 1+ year preferred
- Experience providing care to clients with dementia or Alzheimer's
- Experience with hoyer lifts, gait belts, and transfer equipment
- Experience working with clients who have physical disabilities or chronic illness
