Job Overview:

The In-House Counsel will play a pivotal role in guiding business decisions and shaping compliance strategies on the Legal Team while reporting to the Head of Legal —North America. We're looking for a proactive legal professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys partnering with the business to manage risk while driving growth. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate Across Teams : Work closely with business partners to understand their legal needs and craft effective contracts, agreements, and documentation that align with company goals.
  • Advise the Business : Investigate complex issues, provide pragmatic risk assessments, and help teams make sound commercial decisions with legal backing.
  • Risk Management : Identify and assess compliance risks, recommend actionable solutions, and maintain a healthy balance between innovation and legal protection.
  • Be a Key Compliance Partner : Act as a primary contact for ensuring adherence to laws and regulations—especially in areas like marketing claims, expense reporting, and product promotions.
  • Shape Internal Processes: Review proposed changes to commercial offerings and operational processes, ensuring they align with legal standards and best practices.
  • Educate and Empower : Lead efforts to raise legal awareness across the organization by explaining regulatory changes, compliance requirements, and how they impact the business.
  • Evaluate Contractual Risk : Analyze contract terms and advise stakeholders on potential liabilities to support confident, well-informed business decisions.
  • Stay Ahead of Legal Trends : Monitor evolving legal landscapes and know when to bring in specialized expertise to keep the business compliant and competitive.
  • Promote Legal’s Strategic Role : Position the legal department as a trusted business advisor by fostering strong relationships and delivering timely, valuable support.
  • Oversee Litigation Management : Lead the coordination of litigation matters with external counsel, ensuring efficient, effective legal representation and outcomes.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited school.
  • Active admission to a US state bar, California preferred.
  • 1-7+ years of relevant corporate, commercial, or transactional law experience.
  • Agreeable approach - excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail in all aspects of work in legal documentation and analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • In-house experience preferred.
  • Experience advising healthcare clients, including familiarity with GPOs, distributors, large healthcare systems, AKS, HIPAA, and healthcare regulations is a plus.


Salary Range

The anticipated salary range for candidates working in Irvine is $130,000-$165,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
