Purpose of Job The purpose of this job is to manage the day-to-day Medical First Response program within the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department. This assignment is intended to function primarily as an administrative role focused on EMS program oversight, quality improvement, and operational support. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to prioritizing and responding to routine and emergency situations, providing EMS training, performing quality improvement, ePCR review, and EMS oversight. Assists with policy development and implementation regarding emergency medical care, fostering partnerships with community partners, completing assigned administrative tasks, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Job Related Requirements WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Subject to work holidays, weekends, and on-call after hours.Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy. Emergency Position This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High school diploma or equivalent with eight years of fire and rescue experience or any combination of training, education, and experience that meets the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.Minimum rank of Fire Sergeant. Must be a certified firefighter II with Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training or equivalent. Current EMT or higher with two years of experience. Blue Card Incident Command Certification.PICO/STICOPossess a minimum of a valid Georgia Class C Non-commercial Driver's License.Must obtain AEMT within 12 months of promotion/hire. Must obtain Incident Safety Officer within 12 months of promotion/hire.Must obtain Fire Instructor I or EMS Instructor within 18 months of promotion/hire. Preferred Certifications include the following: Leadership I and IIGeorgia EMS Instructor/CoordinatorFire Officer I and IIEmergency Vehicle Operations CourseAssociates degree or higher in the field of Fire Science, EMS Technology, or related course work is preferred. Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including calculators, fire hoses/nozzles, axes, shovels, mechanics tools, hand tools, power tools, electric generators, medical equipment, and all types of fire and rescue equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of heavy work. DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things. INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to hear, speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving / receiving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants / from supervisors. LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires ability to read a variety of inspection, casualty, and maintenance reports, manuals such as ACCFD operations, IFSTA, NPQ, NFDRS, Hazardous Materials, Vehicle Maintenance and other informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to prepare various reports and inspections such as vehicle maintenance, activities, injury, civilian casualty, supply requisitions, fire loss, inventory, and personnel reports using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence. INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand complex principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in the absence of management. VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technical or professional languages including personnel, medical, engineering, mechanics, electrical, fire, and radio signal terminology. NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; interpret graphs; perform calculations involving variables, formulas, square roots, and polynomials; perform statistical calculations; and apply a variety of theoretical mathematical concepts and make original applications of mathematical procedures. MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using fire and rescue, office, mechanics, electrical and medical equipment. Requires the ability to lift, push, bend and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates. Requires skilled movements coordinating eyes, hands and fingers accurately and making precise movements with speed. MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as calculators, fire hoses/nozzles, axes, shovels, mechanics tools, hand tools, power tools, electric generators, medical equipment and all types of fire and rescue equipment. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. COLOR/VISUAL DISCRIMINATION: Position requires binocular vision with good depth perception and peripheral vision, motion detection, high acuity, and light adaptation, as well as the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency. PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
