In-Process Inspector

SUMMARY

Monitors and inspects all in-process assemblies and parts for correctness and completeness. Frequently visits assembly area, machine shop and finish shop to perform inspection. Reports defect conditions to the area supervisor and management via the Quality Assurance Manager. Submits reports daily via email to the Quality Assurance Manager. Maintains data and performs trend analysis. Incorporates incoming inspection data into analysis. Provides graphical analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs visual and dimensional inspection on all electrical and mechanical assemblies for completeness and correctness of assembly. May include electrical testing.
  • Checks completed units and subassemblies for proper soldering of all connections per specifications of IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.
  • Performs accept and/or reject decisions based on applicable documentation such as drawings, samples, and procedures, as well as the IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies standards.
  • Checks completed units and subassemblies for correct wires, including checking proper gauge and length, proper color, proper routing, and that proper tie wrap or tie down methods are used. In addition, checks that wire connectors are installed correctly, and that wires are in correct locations.
  • Visually inspects units for cosmetic defects.
  • Performs dimensional inspections on assemblies and components where required.
  • Performs dimensional inspection on overlays and covers when received from vendors to assure they meet drawing specifications.
  • Develops and/or recommends functional gauging where appropriate.
  • Develops trend analysis data and provides in graphical formats.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work activities to meet production schedule.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED with 2 years technical college preferred; or one to three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics. Ability to use measuring equipment like micrometers and calipers. Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows computer environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, logs, and decimals. Basic trigonometry and geometry.

  • Must be able to sit, stand and/or move while performing job duties
