Employed by: NCBIS to support students to fully participate within a mainstream educational setting.

There is a probationary period of three months.

Responsible to: The Inclusive Learning Specialist Tutor is responsible to the Head of Inclusive

Learning.

DUTIES OF THE INCLUSIVE LEARNING SPECIALIST TUTOR

A. SUPPORTING STUDENTS

To work with students across subject areas and year groups and to develop an understanding of the

specific needs of the student to be supported.

A. SUPPORTING STUDENTS

  • Work with individual students and small groups across different subject areas and year groups, developing a

clear understanding of their specific needs.

  • Develop knowledge and use of a wide range of strategies to support students, such as clarifying instructions,

modelling skills, adapting materials, and encouraging independence.

  • Support students in areas of difficulty (e.g., language development, behaviour, reading, spelling, handwriting,

organisation).

  • Assist students with physical needs, including during PE and swimming sessions, while promoting

independence, as required.

  • Plan and prepare individual and small-group lessons aligned with students’ Personal Learning Plans (PLPs).
  • Collaborate with teachers and the Head of Inclusive Learning to develop, review, and evaluate PLPs.
  • Develop differentiated and personalised resources to support learning.
  • Provide approved access-arrangements support during examinations.
  • Establish positive and supportive professional relationships with students.
  • Promote acceptance, inclusion, and positive peer interaction for students with individual needs.
  • To establish a supportive relationship with the students concerned.
  • To encourage acceptance and inclusion of students with individual needs.

  • Plan, record, and review intervention activities to support PLP targets and departmental expectations.
  • Work closely with teachers, the Head of Inclusive Learning, and other professionals to deliver effective

programmes of support.

  • Make curriculum and environmental recommendations to better meet student needs.
  • Provide regular feedback on student progress and contribute to PLP review meetings.
  • Assist with report writing and documentation of student progress.
  • When appropriate, work with wider groups of students to promote collaboration, peer learning, and inclusive

group experiences.

  • Support behaviour management strategies in collaboration with the class/subject teacher.

  • Follow school policies and procedures and contribute positively to the ethos of the school.
  • Develop a broad understanding of the school curriculum to effectively guide and support students with

individual needs.

  • Help maintain supportive home–school relationships where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with specialist teachers, therapists, and external professionals involved in student support.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and school matters.
  • Attend staff meetings, INSET, and relevant school functions as required by the Head of Inclusive Learning.
  • Support the professional development of colleagues in areas of specialist interest or expertise.
