Independent Wheelchair Transport Driver (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation)

seeking professional Independent Contractor Wheelchair Transport Drivers to provide non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services for Veterans receiving care through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Drivers will transport Veterans to and from VA hospitals, clinics, residences, and approved medical facilities throughout the Texas Valley Coastal Bend region.

This is an independent contractor opportunity with flexible scheduling and consistent trip volume.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport Veterans in wheelchair-accessible vehicles
• Assist patients entering and exiting the vehicle
• Secure wheelchairs using proper tie-down procedures
• Maintain professional and respectful interactions with Veterans
• Follow trip assignments from dispatch or VetRide system
• Arrive on time for scheduled pickups and drop-offs
• Maintain trip documentation and service logs
• Follow all safety and compliance guidelines

Driver Requirements

• Valid Texas Driver’s License
• Minimum 1 year driving experience
• Clean driving record (no DUI within last 3 years)
• Must pass background check
• Ability to assist wheelchair passengers safely
• Professional appearance and customer service skills

Vehicle Requirements

Drivers must provide their own wheelchair-accessible vehicle, including:

• ADA compliant wheelchair van
• Wheelchair lift or ramp
• Proper wheelchair securement equipment
• First aid kit
• Valid registration and insurance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)
• CPR / First Aid certification
• Experience transporting elderly or disabled passengers
• Familiarity with VA facilities or medical transport

Compensation

Contract drivers are paid per completed trip.

Estimated earning potential:

$45 (base rate to include first 25 miles). A one-way trip is equivalent to one unit of issue.

$3.45 Wheelchair Van Trip Mileage Outside the Base Rate

Pay: $10,000.00 - $15,000.00 per month
