Industrial Electrician I

Merrifield Support Center

Summary

Performs the skilled journey-level electrical work required to perform preventive maintenance, install, modify, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair industrial-type electrical systems, controls, and other complex equipment.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the electrician trade at the apprentice II or equivalent level.
  • Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia journey-level electrician's license.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
  • Knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of the equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for the electrical trade and related installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • Skill in inspecting and repairing electrically ''live' wires, when necessary.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national codes.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Capability to estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, or modifies complex electrical systems, terminal units, controls, and other complex equipment.
  • Maintains conventional and sophisticated lighting systems.
  • Makes regular and special inspections of athletic field electrical systems and components.
  • Performs work on-site or in a shop.
  • Drives a vehicle to and from work locations and keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
  • Performs operator maintenance on the vehicle and keeps it in orderly condition.
  • Keeps records and makes reports of work accomplished and materials used.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises. This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.

$55,933 - $94,416
