This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides a warm, enriching environment conducive to the development of infants through pre-school age children.
He/she must have the understanding and tools necessary to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of children ages 6 months - 5 years old; effective and efficient time management and organizational skills, demonstrate capacity for managing and training staff (subs)and children, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to be flexible to work as a team player, problem solve quickly and effectively, apply common sense, take initiative, ability to work office equipment (copier, computer), understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
Meet the social, physical, emotional, and educational needs of children ages 6 weeks- 5 years old by providing, implementing and participating in weekly lesson plans.
Maintain safe, welcoming, and risk free classrooms and playground areas where children feel safe and secure and parents feel welcomed. Flexible and responsible to children’s needs.
Track children participating in the POS food program, input daily calculations monthly with menus of food served, and turn in required documentation.
Accountable for maintaining daily attendance records, injury/accident reports, children’s portfolios, and daily logs.
Creates class newsletters monthly with helpful center events, learning in the classroom, reviews child development articles/information.
Support the YMCA mission, participates in YMCA special events
Attends staff meetings and trainings as schedules, completes yearly Licensing and Credentialing required training hours
Flexibility to work where needed, to be a team player, and show initiative to do more than expected
Be a role model for children and staff members, use gentle tones
Assist with set up and clean up of all meal services and daily activities
