Infant/Toddler Assistant Teacher

Position Title: Infant/Toddler Assistant Teacher

Work Schedule: Part-time; Monday-Friday

Duties include, but are not limited to:

This position involves caring for children ages birth-3 years old in accordance with state licensing and credentialing requirements. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide quality child care in a classroom learning environment
  • Develop and foster strong relationship with children and families
  • Assist lead teacher in efficiently maintaining classroom management
  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development
  • Observe and evaluate children’s development and behavior
  • Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order
  • Maintain licensing and professional conduct standards consistent with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and State of Michigan regulations
  • Other responsibilities to be determined by the Director/Lead Teacher

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associates Degree preferred
  • One year of experience in providing child care and program development in the State of Michigan Infant/Child/Adult First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Must be able to perform duties within the normal bounds of a classroom environment including interacting and playing with children for the majority of the day.
  • The successful candidate is required by the State of Michigan licensing to be cleared through the CCBC (Child Care Background Check) program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual Dexterity: The "fine motor skills" required to operate a computer, mouse, and phone, or to handle paper files and office equipment.
  • Visual Acuity: The ability to see and read a computer screen for extended periods
  • Sedentary/Light Lifting: The ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Reaching & Bending: Occasionally needing to reach above head level or bend down to access low filing cabinets or plug in computer cables.
  • Noise Levels: The ability to work in an environment with moderate noise (phones ringing, printers, "open office" chatter).

The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred as is a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Previous experience in a licensed child care center is also preferred.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with an Early Childhood ZS (General and Special Education) endorsement certification.
  • The successful candidate will show initiative and will be organized, punctual, and have demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
