Infectious Disease Physician
Job Title: Infectious Disease specialist

Reports To: Chief Medical Officer
OVERVIEW:
Under direction of the Medical Director, provides professional medical services in the community health center.
DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide diagnosis and treatment of adult patients presenting with infectious diseases such as diseases that are resistant to treatment, illness after travel, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, Lyme disease and Hepatitis B and C.
- Provide treatment in an outpatient clinical setting.
- Perform a physical examination (excluding telemedicine visits), review patient data and order routine diagnostic imaging studies and labs when indicated.
- Document observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with other specialties.
- Follow Advantage Health (AH) directives and policies and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Possess computer skills to access and input typed data on each patient into the electronic health record (EHR).
- Maintain license to practice medicine in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Required to possess full and unrestricted licensure and to maintain current registration.
- Provides direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate.
- Establishes professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics, provide telephone and e-consult consultation as needed.
- Cooperates with and participates in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and with other performance improvement activities as directed. Attending assigned meetings or process action teams.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of preventive medicine.
- Knowledge of the state and federal laws pertaining to medicine and to community health centers.
- Knowledge of the structure and function of community health centers.
- Skill in communicating effectively with patients and their families.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients and the public.
- Basic understanding of health clinic processes and operations. Understanding of Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) processes and operations (preferred)
- Basic computer knowledge and skills, utilization of hardware and software
- Excellent customer service skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Graduation from a college or university by the American Medical Association with a Doctor of Medicine degree or accredited by the American Osteopathic Association with Doctor of Osteopathy degree. If medical education occurred at a foreign medical school, the applicant must possess as a current Educational Foreign Medical Graduate (FCFMG) Certificate.
- Completed fellowship and certification in Infectious Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
- Licensure/Certifications Required
- Board Certification in specialty of Infectious Disease
- State of Michigan Medical licensure
- Current DEA registration and Controlled Substances licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (or within 3 months of hire)
