Information Support Staff

FUNCTION:

Works regularly at the information desk, providing general information and computer assistance to the general public. Supports patrons and staff by following established policies and procedures of the Cambria County Library.  Approximately 20 hours a week, will include some evenings and Saturdays.

DUTIES:

  • Assist patrons searching the online catalog for book titles; help patrons locate materials using the Dewey Decimal System; place holds using the Spark catalog; take interlibrary loan requests.
  • Assist patrons with computer problems such as gaining access to an email account, opening an attachment in an email, printing documents, etc.
  • Send faxes for the general public; troubleshoot photocopier malfunctions; help patrons scan documents.
  • Check IDs and print guest passes for computer use; reset pin numbers; renew library cards.
  • Place holds, check in, and check out hotspots, Chromebooks, and tablets.
  • Use the cash register, make change, handle credit card transactions, and count and reconcile the cash drawer.
  • Answer and direct phone calls, including addressing some light reference questions.
  • Have an understanding of item shelving in periodicals in order to pull obituaries and articles from microfilm, newspapers, and magazines as needed. Assist with operation of microfilm machines.
  • Process magazines and microfilm, and weed these materials as needed.
  • Shelve books in the Pennsylvania Room and shelf-read as needed.
  • Receive, shelve, and organize collection materials. 
  • Oversight of the government documents collection, including weeding.
  • Plan, implement, and support programming efforts, including LGBTQ+ events with department assistance.
  • Plan and execute technology courses for the public with department assistance.
  • Plan, design, and implement engaging topical displays.
  • Serve patrons by helping to select and locate materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams and OneDrive, and knowledge of/proficiency with new and emerging technologies (ex. VR and digital media).
  • Exceptional customer service skills and experience working with the public.
  • Some knowledge of and interest in genealogy and local history is helpful but not required.

  • Considerable walking in the work area
  • Able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to lift or move 30 lbs
  • Occasional crouching (bending of the knees)
  • Stooping (bending at the waist) and reaching

Manual /physical dexterity requirements

  • Able to manipulate a keyboard
  • Able to manipulate other office equipment, such as photocopier, including filing paper trays
  • Able to manipulate mouse or other input device (ex. Barcode scanner)
  • Able to manipulate data cables, cords, or connections

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $10.00 per hour
