Information Technology Assistant - Extra Help

Position Summary

The Extra-Help Information Technology Assistant will support the Business Systems Analyst (BSA) team on Case Management initiatives. This temporary role is ideal for individuals with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an interest in public sector technology or legal systems. Students planning to pursue a career in law are especially encouraged to apply, as the role offers exposure to court operations, processes, and justice-related technology.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position. Work will be performed on-site. Flexible scheduling available within standard business hours.

Typical Duties



  • Assist in gathering and documenting business and functional requirements
  • Support system testing, including test case execution and defect tracking
  • Help prepare user guides, training materials, and process documentation
  • Perform data entry, validation, and cleanup tasks
  • Assist with user support and troubleshooting under BSA guidance
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders and vendors
  • Track and report progress on assigned tasks
  • Evaluate chatbot interactions for unanswered or misrouted questions across various case types (e.g., civil, criminal, family, traffic)
  • Collaborate with operational units to improve chatbot accuracy and expand its knowledge base
  • Support case management process documentation and help identify opportunities for automation or user self-service
  • Gain exposure to case management workflows and court technology systems

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:


  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or institution
OR
  • Students currently pursuing or planning to pursue a degree in law, public administration, or a related field are encouraged to apply

Prior experience working in a trial court operational setting is nice to have, but not required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interest in legal systems, public service, or technology
  • Ability to analyze and document workflows and system behavior
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to learn new systems and tools quickly
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Retirement Plan:
Tax deferred contributory system under the County Retirement Act of 1937. This is a defined benefit plan fully integrated with Social Security.

Vacation Leave:
Permanent, full-time Court employees accrue vacation at the following rates:
00 - 02 years = 10 days
02 - 03 years = 12 days
03 - 04 years = 13 days
04 - 05 years = 14 days
05 - 10 years = 15 days
10 - 15 years = 19 days
15 - 20 years = 21 days
More than 20 = 24 days.

Sick Leave:
Twelve days per year with no limit on accumulation.

Holidays:
Thirteen paid fixed holidays per year, plus nineteen miscellaneous floating holiday hours, granted via compensatory time off.

Insurance:
Family vision care and an employee long term disability plan is paid by the Court. Family dental coverage available at a minimal employee cost per pay period. Choice of three health plans Kaiser Permanente, Health Net HMO or Health Net PPO. The Court's contribution is approximately 85% of the premium for the health plan selected.

$10,000 Term Life Insurance is provided at Court Cost, additional life insurance may be purchased.

Dependent and Medical Care Assistance Programs:
Sonoma County Court employees may participate in these tax exempt programs which allow certain personal expenses to be paid from pre-tax salary and thus reduces taxable income and social security.
