Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor s degree. Six years of experience in multiple Cybersecurity technologies, systems analysis, framework and regulatory requirements, systems design and implementation, maintenance, administration, endpoint detection and remediation, vulnerability management, and Cybersecurity policy and compliance. Additional experience in multiple Cybersecurity technologies, systems analysis, framework and regulatory requirements, systems design and implementation, maintenance, administration, endpoint detection and remediation, vulnerability management, and familiarity with Cybersecurity policy and compliance may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferences


  • Experience with network infrastructure and server management, including routers, switches, firewalls, Windows, and Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools such as Python, Ansible, YAML, or SOAR platforms.
  • Proficiency with security and network diagnostic tools such as Nmap and Wireshark.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to networking, firewall configurations, and connectivity issues.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Fortinet Firewall Administrator Security Certification.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) clearance (or ability to obtain), including fingerprinting and Police Department approval.

Miami-Dade County is seeking an IT Sr. Security Systems Administrator to join our Operational Security Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support critical public safety operations by leveraging your networking and cybersecurity expertise in the design, implementation, and support of the County’s Fire Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.


The primary objective of this role is to secure County infrastructure and applications by installing, maintaining, and supporting network and security systems, while proactively strengthening Miami-Dade County’s cybersecurity posture.


Job Responsibilities include:

  • Installing, managing, and maintaining a wide range of security and network infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls, Citrix ADC or Kemp load balancers, VPN tunnels, SD-WAN, Endpoint XDR systems, SASE solutions, and Zero Trust environments.
  • Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and assisting in the creation of policies aligned with security frameworks such as NIST 800-53, HIPAA, and CJIS.
  • Writing and updating technical documentation to support system maintenance and adherence to security best practices.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for the Fire CAD system, including supporting municipalities, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and assisting product specialists with technical concerns.
  • Monitoring security logs and reports, notifying the Compliance team of potential risks, and initiating system lockdowns when necessary.
  • Collaborating with Security Engineers and cross-functional teams to investigate and respond to security incidents.
  • Coordinating with vendors to open support tickets, implement solutions, and resolve system issues.
  • Leading or participating in process improvement initiatives and tabletop exercises to enhance security posture and operational efficiency.
