Innovation and Creation Manager
The Innovation & Creation Department supports hands-on learning, creativity, and experimentation by providing access to specialized tools and skill-building opportunities. This team manages dynamic creative spaces, maintains equipment, and guides customers through onboarding and training to ensure safe and effective use. Through engaging orientations and accessible learning resources, the department empowers the community to explore new skills, bring ideas to life, and discover the possibilities of innovation.
The Innovation and Creation Manager leads system-wide engagement, collaboration, and marketing while serving as TCCL’s ambassador in the community regarding creation and innovation-related programs and events. Key responsibilities include motivating a team of creative staff; promoting collaboration and curiosity; identifying event and program timelines, and program planning and evaluation. Reports to the Central Library Manager and supervises Digital Literacy Lab (DLL) Specialist, Maker Space Specialist, and Customer Service Assistant; also builds relationships in order to advise and guide maker space staff across the system.

Status: Exempt, Full Time
Salary: $4,192.00 - $5,133.00 / month
Additional responsibilities include:
- Leads staff through thoughtful feedback, regular team meetings, balanced communication, and appropriate coaching;
- Works with relevant staff on creation and innovation programming and services, including professional development, guidance, coaching, and implementation of new programming and service models;
- Hires, trains, motivates, and disciplines staff reporting directly to them and aids in hiring positions related to innovation and creation;
- Promotes programming and services to the community, promoting engagement and increasing traffic;
- Works closely and collaboratively with a variety of library stakeholders to plan, develop, promote, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of learning experiences, programs, and activities offered through the library’s creation and innovation programs and services;
- Identifies and executes vision and strategies for maker and digital literacy services as well as innovation and creation programs and services. Supports the My Library Our Future initiative by supporting implementation of programming and services in new libraries;
- Serves as an integral part of the Central public service management team and works collaboratively to enhance customer experience by identifying barriers to service and creating inclusive library spaces.
- Trained to cover public service zones and serves as “person in charge”
- Coordinates system-wide programming and special events, including budgeting, grant and trust proposals management, event and program timelines, and program planning;
- Participates in producing funding requests and administers funds assigned for innovation and creation services
- Oversees the maintenance of equipment, and documents status, need for repair, etc. Performs triage maintenance on equipment and software and works with the library’s IT Department to maintain and operate hardware, software and equipment.
- Develops and facilitates an Innovation and Creation Services Committee, ensuring programs and services are implemented and supported throughout the County;
- Follows emerging technology trends and makes recommendations for related library programming.
- Evaluates staff knowledge of innovation and creation services and develops relevant training and professional development opportunities;
- Evaluates the effectiveness of staff working with maker programs, and works with managers in the development of outcomes-based planning of programs and services;
- Researches innovative programs and services and provides strategic recommendations for future growth opportunities;
- Develops and maintains content for the library’s website for creation and innovation programs and services;
- Develops and maintains content for the staff intranet;
- Actively supports TCCL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, and the Library’s Be All In culture;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and teams, including maintaining effective relationships with community partners and library co-workers;
- Adept at managing change quickly and effectively, and demonstrates flexibility to step into different roles as needed (DLL, Makerspace)
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize information effectively to develop and implement strategy;
- Strong organizational skills are required to manage systemwide innovation and creation resources;
- Flexible and adaptable throughout the workday, in the type and location of work to be accomplished in order to provide superior customer experiences;
- Previous experience working with Maker Space technologies; including but not limited to 3D printing, laser engraving, CNC milling, audio recording, sewing and cooking;
- Some knowledge of software and equipment for video editing, photography, graphic design, computer coding, robotics, audio engineering, web design, and digital conversion.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors’ degree required in the areas of education, technology, or related field;
- One to three years previous supervisory experience required:
- One or more years of experience facilitating user training in a technical environment;
- Demonstrated experience in providing quality customer service.
- MLIS or significant progress toward MLIS completion preferred;
Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions
Work occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions. The job may involve dealing with moderately unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
