INNOVATION LAB INTERN ROLE SUMMARY
The Innovation Lab team drives continuous operational excellence by empowering interdepartmental collaboration, integrating systems, and refining processes within physical and digital workflows. Through direct assistance with client projects and internal operational initiatives, the Lab team helps to ensure that Dimensional Innovations consistently delivers remarkable experiences.
As an Innovation Lab intern, you will join the Lab team to directly assist with client projects and internal initiatives through the creation of prototypes and mockups or by helping to develop and test internal process improvement strategies. The Innovation Lab is a fast paced team with priorities that shift as necessary to support the larger teams within Dimensional Innovations.
Puts form to ideas through creation of mock-ups and prototypes
Participates in the ideation and design processes seeking to connect new materials, processes, or technology with the needs of architectural/experiential designs
Documents / communicates ideas and concepts
Explores cutting edge design software and design strategies
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Proficiency in hand sketching and drawing to communicate concepts required
Proficiency in a solid modeling CAD program required (Solidworks, Rhino, Fusion360, or similar)
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required
Some experience with digital fabrication workflow (CAD/CAM, CNC, 3D printing) preferred
Some experience with making, prototyping, creating mock-ups through use of shop tools and processes preferred
Strong creative-thinker and problem-solver who demonstrates the ability to connect new technology with the needs of experiential / architectural designs
Solid knowledge of design trends, construction methodology, material application and manufacturing processes
An entrepreneurial spirit and desire to bring a fun, creative and energetic level of professionalism to the team
Exude a “go where needed” attitude and outlook on role
Comfortable with failing while remaining positive
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form
Ability to evaluate urgency of situation and prioritize tasks
Organized with an attention to detail
Preferred majors: Industrial Design, Architecture, Environmental Design, or similar degree
The Innovation Lab Internship is an hourly (non-exempt), full-time opportunity that runs from June 1st, 2026 - July 31st, 2026. Applications will close on December 31, 2025. This is an onsite Monday - Friday internship in our Kansas City location. You must be at least 18 years of age, and currently enrolled as a college junior or senior or actively enrolled in a related postgraduate program. Please submit a portfolio with your application.
