Inpatient Nurse Educator-OB

Job Summary:

Provides clinical education and training for inpatient nursing teams within Cherokee Nation Health Services. Ensures staff competency in acute care procedures, patient safety standards, and evidence-based practices for hospital-based care.

Job Duties:
  • Designs and delivers training programs for inpatient nursing staff, including orientation, annual competencies, and specialty skill development.
  • Educates staff on acute care protocols, medication administration, and emergency response procedures.
  • Collaborates with inpatient leadership to assess training needs and implement targeted education plans.
  • Supports initiatives related to patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides bedside teaching and mentorship to reinforce clinical skills and best practices.
  • Maintains documentation of all training activities and ensure compliance with HR and accreditation standards.
  • Acts as a resource for inpatient staff regarding clinical guidelines and evidence-based care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Performs work under minimal supervision.
  • Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's degree from a 2-year college or technical school in nursing and ten (10) years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in nursing with five (five) years of experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess a license as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) or possess a multistate RN license accepted by the OBN, no substitutions. Must maintain license throughout employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS); must be obtained during orientation and maintained throughout employment. AHA Instructor preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment. AHA Instructor preferred.
  • Must possess or obtain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within orientation period and maintain
throughout employment. AHA Instructor preferred.
  • Must possess or obtain Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Fetal
Monitoring Class – within 12 months of hire OR proof of completion within the last two years and
maintain throughout employment. A WHONN Instructor preferred.
  • Possession of Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support (STABLE)
preferred. STABLE Instructor preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • A driver's license may be required to work in some departments. If so, the applicant/employee must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
  • Required to meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
